Let’s mark your baby’s first birthday in style with one of my fun, relaxed sessions at my light and welcoming studio in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. During my Cake Smash photoshoots, I capture every precious detail from the first curious glance at the cake to those big icing-covered smiles. Some babies dive straight in, while others take their time. However your little one approaches it, you’ll have beautiful, timeless photographs that capture their unique personality and the joy of turning one. Celebrating Your Baby’s First Year Your baby’s one year milestone photography session is about so much more than cake. It’s about celebrating everything they’ve achieved in their first year their growing curiosity, independence, and all those adorable quirks that make them them.

Many families choose to make the Cake Smash photoshoot the grand finale of their baby’s first year photography journey, following their newborn and sitter sessions. Together, these sessions tell the story of your baby’s incredible first twelve months full of love, laughter, and discovery. My Hatfield studio is modern, bright, and designed to feel like home. Families travel from across Hertfordshire, including Barnet, Cuffley, Bushey, Hitchin, Chigwell, Epping, Henlow, Aylesbury, Radlett, Stanmore, Harpenden, and Chelmsford for their first birthday photoshoot. Each session is relaxed, baby-led, and filled with laughter the perfect way to capture your little one’s personality at this special age. A session fee of £100 secures your booking, with digital collections and artwork available to purchase separately at your viewing appointment one week later.

What Happens During a Cake Smash Session?

Every session starts with a few simple, classic portraits of your baby. This gives them time to settle in and ensures you have some timeless images before the messy fun begins. Family portraits are also welcomed and encouraged it’s a lovely way to include everyone in the celebration.

Then we bring out the cake! The cake isn’t just for eating it’s for smashing, exploring, and creating those irresistibly cute, icing-covered moments. Some babies can’t wait to get stuck in, while others take a gentler approach, carefully prodding and tasting. Either way, it’s always full of fun and personality.

Once your little one has finished with the cake, we end the session with a warm bubble bath. Babies love splashing around and it’s the perfect way to end the session full of giggles and joy while we capture a few final shots of your happy, clean baby.

When is the best time to reserve a cake smash session ?

I recommend booking your session as soon as you know you would like your child to have a cake smash session experience. I always suggest booking in a date at least four weeks prior to your baby’s first birthday to ensure time is given to edit and hand back your final gallery.

How long does a cake smash session last ?

My first birthday/ cake smash sessions are approximately 1 – 1 1/2 hours, which allows plenty of time for you your child to settle in and really enjoy the session.

How do I book?

Can siblings/ Parents be in the session?

Cake smash sessions are focused on the birthday child, this special milestone only happens once however I am always happy to take one or two images of the parents together to document this special day.

What do I need to bring and what shall I wear?

You will receive a detailed guide with information on what to bring for your cake smash session. If you are stuck, please pop me a what’s app and we can discuss ideas.

Where will the photos take place?

Sessions take place in my beautiful studio located in Hatfield , Hertfordshire.

Does the session fee come with digital images ?

No, you do not receive any images with your booking fee.

The session fee secures your date and time, your 2-3 hour session and ordering and viewing appointment.

Digital files, albums and artwork are purchased after seeing your images at the viewing appointment , so you can choose exactly what you love.

Can I just do a birthday shoot ?

You do not need to have any balloons or cake, we can just photography your little one and get some beautiful up to date portraits, family images to document this special occasion. Some parents like to incorporate the birthday by brining alone a “one” jumper or a hat. Alternately we can keep it super simple.

Do you provide the cake ?

For an additional £25 I can arrange a beautifully decorated 5 inch cake that will be ready and waiting for your little ones arrival. I have lots of cake designs to choice from that incorporate the balloon colour make it the perfect set up. Please note any allergies/ intolerances are not catered for and a cake would need to be sourced by yourselves if required.

I need help deciding on a theme/colour scheme for the cake smash.

I provide a detailed questionnaire of questions that will help prompt ideas and set us you are thinking of creating. Together, you, myself and the balloon company will create something special and unique just for you and your child.

Are the balloons included?

Balloon displays, 3D props are at an additional cost. The cost of the ballots all depend on the size, colour and set up of your balloons. A quote will be provide once we have a better understanding of what you would like.
