Your family’s outfits can make the difference between a great shoot and an amazing one. The right clothing really brings the images together and makes them pop.
I love sharing practical style tips before your session so we can get the foundations just right. This helps me capture my signature Megan Foster Photography style, creating timeless images you’ll treasure and proudly display in your home for years to come.
My goal is for you to feel confident and beautiful during your session, and I’ll guide you every step of the way. I even offer a curated wardrobe for mums to borrow in the studio, full of dresses chosen to complement my style and make you feel amazing.

And it’s not just for you. I also have a small collection of delicate baby outfits, cozy blankets, and tiny bows to add that extra special detail for your little one.
Three Key Styling Rules
1. Keep colours simple and neutral
2. Choose outfits that feel comfortable to you
3. Coordinate tones across all family members
Colour Choices
• Stick to light, neutral tones like white, beige and creams
• Pastels like blush pink, light blue, or khaki work well as subtle accents
• Avoid bold prints. If you love patterns, keep them soft and understated
• Skip black. Navy is a better alternative.
Clean denim shades photograph beautifully, but avoid ripped jeans as they will not age as gracefully in your family albums
Avoid logos, text, and characters. Large logos, branding, or cartoon prints can distract from your family’s beauty.
If you would like a little extra pampering, I can arrange a hair and makeup artist to come to the studio. Mums love this as they can just turn up and relax, knowing everything is taken care of.

Outfit Ideas for Mums
I love dresses for most sessions. Flowy fabrics in maxi or midi lengths offer coverage and movement. Wrap and off-the-shoulder styles suit many body types beautifully.
Not a dress person? No problem. A simple button-down shirt with light or white jeans works wonderfully. Stretch, slim-fit styles help show shape while keeping you comfortable. Jumpsuits are another chic alternative. Just keep prints simple and colours neutral to ensure your photos remain timeless.

Outfit Ideas for Dads
Keep it light, neutral, and comfortable. Jeans in blue or indigo, chinos in soft shades, and plain t-shirts or casual button-down shirts work perfectly. Avoid black and large logos. No need for stiff collars. Just be yourself and enjoy the session.

Bump Sessions
I absolutely love maternity shoots. Capturing those special weeks before your little one arrives is such a unique and emotional experience.
The same styling principles apply. Neutral tones, flowing dresses, or body-con styles show off your gorgeous bump. I provide a selection of gowns at the studio, but you are welcome to bring your own. You can even have a peek at my wardrobe on Instagram.
I usually photograph three looks for bump sessions:
1. Fully covered, such as a dress
2. Partially open, like a shirt or lace robe
3. Minimal, for example jeans with a simple top, underwear, or tasteful nude shots

Babies and Newborns
I like to keep newborn sessions simple and cozy. Please bring baby in a plain, long-sleeved vest for easy undressing. I have wraps, knitted outfits, and delicate headbands for girls. The studio is warm, so we can capture those adorable, squishy naked baby moments too.
Siblings
Keep things simple. For little ones under two, rompers or dungarees work best to avoid wardrobe mishaps. Dresses are fine, but ensure nappy coverage and skip tights to capture that soft, natural skin.

Boys can follow the same neutral, simple approach as dad. Always bring a spare outfit for both baby and siblings.
I hope these tips help. If you have any questions at all, feel free to WhatsApp me. I often get clients sending me their outfit choices for advice, and that is exactly what I am here for.
